What is Tisane?

What is Tisane?

A tisane (pronounced tea-zahn) is an infusion of leaves, fruits, seeds, bark, flowers, or spices that is steeped in water. It is more commonly known as herbal, fruit or flower tea.

Tisanes do not contain the leaves of the plant Camellia Sinensis which true teas (black tea, green tea, white tea) come from. Since tisanes do not contain caffeine, they are known to have calming properties.

Tisanes are caffeine-free and can be served hot or cold. They have a long history, dating back to ancient China and Egypt, where tisanes were drunk for both enjoyment and medicinal purposes.
